In today's video I demonstrate how to perform the varus stress test for the elbow. Here we are looking for instability or pain of the radial collateral ligament. Here is how you perform it...
The patient can be in sitting or supine.
The elbow is in 20-30 degrees of flexion with the palm up.
Hold the patient's wrist with one hand and place your hand at the medial side of the elbow.
Stress the elbow lightly into a varus position.
Test is positive if there is laxity compared to the other side and/or pain at the lateral epicondyle.
