In this video, we’re going to take a look at why women get diabetes during pregnancy. Diabetes that develops during pregnancy is known as gestational diabetes.

In late pregnancy, a woman’s body goes through a tremendous amount of stress. This spikes cortisol, the stress hormone. The body then releases proteins that turn into sugar, which coincidentally spikes insulin and leads to insulin resistance.

If a woman who is insulin resistant becomes pregnant, pregnancy can worsen the condition and cause her to become diabetic. Before you become pregnant, work on fixing insulin resistance and promoting adrenal health to avoid developing gestational diabetes.
