You probably already know this, but the more sugar you consume when you’re sick, the longer you stay sick! I’ll show you why this is.

In each cell, you have tiny insulin receptors. These receptors allow glucose (sugar) into the cell, but they also allow vitamin C into the cell. If there’s too much sugar in your body, it competes with vitamin C. Because, given a choice, your cells will accept glucose and not vitamin C.

In other words, high blood sugar means low vitamin C. Your immune system needs vitamin C. In your immune system, you have cells called phagocytes that clean up viruses, bacterias, and other pathogens. If your fasting blood sugar is 120 or higher, that can decrease your phagocytes by seventy-five percent, effectively neutralizing your immune system.

As well, the white blood cells that are your main immune defense have more insulin receptors than any other cells. They also contain twenty times more vitamin C than any other cells.

You can see why you need vitamin C, but definitely want to avoid sugar — especially when you’re sick.
