Take Dr. Berg's Advanced Evaluation Quiz: http://bit.ly/EvalQuiz
Dr. Berg talks about why diabetics tend to get higher blood pressure. This is because they have higher amounts of insulin. So insulin is not working in the cell, and the body makes more (5-7 more). Insulin causes the retention of sodium. This then causes the retention of fluid, which then raises the blood pressure.
Most people then cut out the salt but they do not fix the high insulin. This creates a sodium deficiency.
Sodium is needed to prevent muscle and nerve weakness. Side effects include muscle weakness, fatigue, and even cramping.
To top it off - people take a diuretic, which has the side effect of causing potassium loss, which worsens the sodium-potassium ratio. Also, it has a side effect of causing insulin resistance, which worsens things.
