In this video, we're going to talk about what causes gallstones. "The high-fat diet will cause gallstones" myth is absolutely NOT TRUE. Most stones are actually cholesterol stones. The way you form stones is by having super concentrated amounts of cholesterol, as well as having a bile deficiency.

Bile is a fluid made in the liver and concentrated in the gallbladder. It helps extract nutrients from food like fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids.

So really, the underlying cause of gallstones is a lack of bile because bile keeps the stone from developing. It keeps cholesterol from forming a stone, and it disposes of excess cholesterol. Bile is very important. If you had your gallbladder out, you are gonna be deficient in bile even more because now you don't have a sac to allow the bile to be concentrated.

The original reason they probably took your gallbladder out is that you had stones. And now, that it's out, you could have a deficiency in bile even more. So you might switch a problem from a stone to another problem like lack of absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids, or an essential fat called DHA. DHA is good for your brain and your heart.

Indirect causes of a bile deficiency:
• High levels of estrogen – pregnancy, birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy
• High levels of cortisol (stress hormone) – stress, medication type cortisol
• High levels of insulin – pre-diabetes, diabetes, consuming too much sugar, and carbs, frequent eating
• Low-fat diets – saturated fats trigger the release of bile
• Fatty liver – comes from high levels of insulin
• Antacids – decrease the acid and the triggering effect of bile

Symptoms of low bile:
• Bloating
• Indigestion
• Gas
• Constipation
• Right shoulder pain
• Headaches on the right side
• Pain in the upper trap on the right side
• Pain in the scapula on the right side
