Isn’t it weird that your cholesterol goes up when you’re on a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet? Here’s why this happens. Your body makes 3,000 mg of cholesterol per day. That’s the amount of cholesterol in one pound of butter, or 14 eggs, or 333 strips of bacon! And because your body naturally makes so much cholesterol, when you eat less, your body makes more to ensure you get what you need.


People who go on a low-fat diet eat more carbs because, without enough fat to keep you full, you’ll keep eating carbs to satisfy your hunger. And carbs convert to cholesterol with the help of insulin.



What’s the purpose of all this cholesterol? Why would your body make it if it was really so dangerous?


Cholesterol permits your body to build hormones that you need for health. It also acts like a bandage to help heal parts of your body. Most of the cells in your body need cholesterol; thus, they make their own.


There are dangers of low cholesterol; low meaning below 160. You have an increased risk of cancer, along with an increased risk of all-cause mortality. You’re more at risk for what’s called aortic dissection when the major blood vessel to your heart tears open and you bleed internally. As well as depression! The list goes on and on.


So why is the medical profession freaking you out about the dangers of high cholesterol? Well, this is based on what’s been proven to be misleading information from a flawed study. There is no link between consuming a high-fat diet and heart disease, but it led to a recommendation to lower your total cholesterol or fat consumption to 25 to 30 percent of your total calories. That’s way too low.


Cholesterol rises because it’s converted by insulin from carbs; however, when you consume a high-fat diet with low carbs, your cholesterol will not increase.
