In this video, I want to talk about how to cut weight fast, but in a healthy way (for wrestlers).

I was a wrestler in high school and college—I am the perfect example of how not to do it. I would eat the wrong foods. In turn, I would start off undefeated and then end up getting so weak. I would starve my body to lose weight and end up messing up my metabolism.

The biggest danger of losing weight when wrestling is when you have to weigh in—you have to lose 5-10 lbs very quickly. The problem with this is that you’re only losing fluids. But with those fluids also comes electrolytes.

You end up with a severe potassium deficiency. In turn, you put yourself at risk for a heart attack. Many wrestlers have died because of heart attacks—heat, physical activity, dehydration, and low electrolytes do not mix well.

You need to have at least 4,700 mg of potassium every day. Bananas only contain 300 mg. You need 7-10 cups of vegetables a day to maintain healthy potassium levels—most people don’t do this.

You have to cut out the carbs, sugars, and protein powders. Instead, have real meats. You need about 8 oz of protein with each meal. Additionally, you want to consume healthy fats, like avocado, cod liver oil, and eggs (with the yolk). Nutritional yeast is another great way to add nutrients to your meal.

Adding fat will also help you stay satisfied between meals. Don’t have snacks between meals. Instead, do intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is great for fast and healthy weight loss. Don’t do 5-6 meals a day.

Try these tips and don’t overtrain. I think you’ll see huge results.
