The shocking truth about protein bars is that they aren’t actually as healthy as they seem.
Protein bars contain soy protein isolates. These are GMOs that you really don’t want in your body. Soy is highly estrogenic and it’s hard in the liver.
Protein bars also packed full of of sugar—they often contain 28-30+ grams of sugar per bar. Many brands use agave nectar, corn syrup, fructose, brown rice syrup, maltodextrin, and evaporated cane sugar—all of which are very high on the glycemic and insulin indexes.
If you combine all of these sugars with protein, you get a massive spike in glucose and insulin.
Protein bars are not good while you’re on a diet. They can cause you to gain a lot of weight—especially if you’re eating them regularly or as part of a meal.
Protein bars also contain synthetic vitamins, which your body isn’t able to process the same as natural vitamins. In turn, there’s essentially no beneficial nutritional value to them.
What protein bars are also missing the healthy fat. Healthy fats will help you stay full and satisfied throughout the day. Fats also help you burn fat.
