I’m going to tell you why you ought to consume olive oil but never soy oil.
Even though olive oil is an omega-6 oil, and omega-6 oils are normally inflammatory, olive oil is the one that isn’t. The other vegetable oils are. Soy oil is the absolute worst, not only for inflammation but it can cause insulin resistance, make you fat, increase your triglycerides, and contribute to other significant health problems like fatty liver and artery disease.
Besides, ninety percent of soy oil is GMO (genetically modified organisms). It’s simply not healthy! Even though the American Heart Association told us we should replace saturated fats with unsaturated fats like soy oil.
Sadly, it’s hard to find commercial food nowadays without soy oil, especially restaurant food. Grocery store products such as bread, infant formula, and salad dressing contain it. Just try to find a salad dressing without soy oil! Get the olive-oil dressings. Better yet, make your own.
Even hummus, normally a healthy dish, has soy oil unless you get it at a health food store. Desserts, snacks, dips, and even mayonnaise usually have soy oil not olive oil. Food manufacturers use soy oil because it’s cheap. So, stick with olive oil. You’ll be totally safe with it.
So, be diligent. Read labels. Ask your server which oil your food is prepared with. Given the widespread use of soy oil in our food supply, and its impact on your health — inflammation, insulin resistance, fatty liver — you can understand why consuming olive oil is the much better alternative.
