In this video, we’re going to talk about one of the most popular artificial sweeteners on keto, erythritol. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol, but don’t worry, there’s no “alcohol” in it!
Erythritol is a natural sugar alternative that's about 70% as sweet as table sugar. Erythritol has a cooling factor, so it’s one of the best sugar alternatives for keto-friendly ice cream.
Erythritol’s glycemic index is zero, so it won’t affect your blood sugars.
Bacteria have a hard time consuming erythritol, so it doesn’t cause the typical digestive upset that you might experience with other sugar alcohols.
A lot of products that use erythritol also use inulin, a type of soluble fiber. Inulin can sometimes cause bloating, so if this happens to you, try looking for erythritol without inulin.
If erythritol is made from yeast, the yeast is fed glucose from corn that’s typically GMO and contains glyphosate. Be sure to choose non-GMO erythritol!
