In this video, I’m going to give you some updated information on the omega-3 content of canned sardines. Omega-3 fatty acids are very sensitive to heat, which is necessary for the canning process. Some foods are heated for hours to preserve them, especially meat.

I hired a third-party lab to analyze the omega-3 content in a random sampling of canned tuna and canned sardines. Here were the findings:

• Sardines (DHA) – 788 mg / 85 g
• Sardines (EPA) – 742 mg / 85 g

• Tuna (DHA) – 57 mg / 56 g
• Tuna (EPA) – 41 mg / 56 g

Surprisingly, canned sardines are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. They contain 18x the EPA and 13x the DHA found in canned tuna. More than likely, canned fish isn’t exposed to the same amount of heat as canned meat and other canned products.
