In this video, we’re going to talk about why you might be experiencing headaches and other withdrawal symptoms while you’re adapting to ketosis. Keto adaptation is the transition period where your body adapts from sugar-burning to fat-burning. Keto adaptation requires adequate nutrient intake, especially B vitamins and potassium.

Sometimes, keto adaptation does not occur because of intense withdrawal symptoms. When your body is accustomed to bread, sugars, and other junk foods, a dopamine deficiency can occur when you change your diet. This can lead to intense withdrawal symptoms when you start a ketogenic diet.

One of the most common withdrawal symptoms is headaches. To fix this issue, try slowly adding more carbs to your diet—about 5 grams at a time. Phenylalanine, a natural amino acid, can also help reduce withdrawal symptoms by increasing dopamine.
