So you’re not losing weight on keto? There are many reasons, and the fixes are easy. The biggest reason is that you’re not using intermittent fasting effectively.
Healthy keto is low carb, large amounts of vegetables that don’t count toward your carb intake, higher fat, and moderate protein. To get into ketosis, which is when your body makes ketones, you have to lower your carbs. And you could actually be in ketosis from the dietary fat you’re eating instead of your own body fat.
If you’re consuming three meals per day including dietary fat, and your metabolism is slow, you’re not giving your body a chance to tap into its own fat stores. You want to go from three meals per day, to two, and then to one. The way to transition is by your own hunger. If you’re not hungry, don’t eat. Let your body adjust so you can go longer between meals.
You want to go to one meal per day, especially if you’re in your 40’s, 50’s, or 60’s and your metabolism is slow. Some people may need to do a longer fast. When you’re fasting, you’re running on your own body fat for energy.
Once your hunger and cravings are gone, you may find it helpful to reduce your dietary fat.
Although keto isn’t about counting calories, you can easily overdo it by eating three meals a day with lots of dietary fat. Weight loss isn’t only from being in ketosis, especially if the reason you’re in ketosis is because of the amount of fat you’re eating.
Now you know the most common reason for not losing weight on keto.
