In this video, one of my patients interviews me about the poor diet I ate in college, and even more recently before I went on keto, and the effects it had on my health. Logan Sneed wanted you to hear this!

I was the epitome of a junk food junkie on steroids. In college, my main food was Prego and pasta. I was carbing out. And I ate a lot of deep-fried foods too. Then I wondered why I had terrible acne.

Because I craved salt, I used to eat full bags of Doritos. I was totally clueless about nutrition. My mentality was that I was naturally thin, so I could eat whatever I wanted. And I drank Cuban coffee all day. It made me dizzy and caused adrenal stress. Whoppers were cheap, so I ate lots of them too. But hey, at least I got my vegetables on the burger!

When I started getting heartburn, I began popping Rolaids all day long. Then I began getting constant muscle spasms. Once, when I went home, my entire back went into spasm. I went outside and laid down in the snow to try to relieve it.

Turns out it wasn’t really my back, it was my gallbladder in spasm. This went on for about 12 years.

My story explains why I”m so driven to study health. I was so sick, I didn’t want other people to endure sickness.

Next, I tried being a vegetarian, eating lots of beans, carrot juice, and salad, but no animal protein. This lasted about two months. I was bloated all the time.
After I graduated, I met my wife Karen. We’d hang out at our favorite muffin place, eating massive muffins for breakfast. Or I’d eat lite cereal with blueberries and bran, because it was supposed to be healthy. I even ate the protein muffins.

I started getting sick, fatigued, and weak. I even turned a little green and got arthritis. I knew I needed help. We started taking a lot of vitamins. I started having protein for breakfast, which made me feel better. Then I branched out into more alternative medicine solutions.

One mistake I made was to jump into fasting without working up to it. Since I had hypoglycemia, it didn’t go well. I didn’t know you had to ease into it, and get your body used to fat burning. I did “sort of” keto, but not really, so I never got into fat burning. I had arthritis, which has completely cleared up. After a longer fast, I’m hardly bothered by old injuries.

Once I went fully keto, I dropped weight and my energy went way up.

I’ll never go back to eating a poor diet again.
