In this video, we’re going to look at a few popular medications and their potential to interfere with your keto results. The following drugs can negatively affect ketosis and can interfere with your keto and intermittent fasting results:
• Metformin
• Insulin
• Steroids
• Antidepressants
• Statins
Metformin and insulin are often taken by diabetics. They interfere with ketosis because they raise insulin levels in the body. Steroids can block your keto results because they also stimulate insulin. A side effect of taking corticosteroids or prednisone is diabetes.
Antidepressants can interfere with ketosis because they often come along with weight gain due to their ability to increase insulin. Statins also increase insulin resistance.
The good news is that keto and intermittent fasting will reduce your need for these medications over time. Keto and intermittent fasting improve insulin resistance and reduce insulin spikes.
Elevated mood can also be expected, which will reduce the need for antidepressants. Consult with your doctor before reducing or eliminating any medications
