In this video, we’re going to talk about what you can do for constipation from fasting.

Fasting-related constipation can be common on a keto and intermittent fasting plan. Why?

Fasting triggers natriuresis, which is the excretion of sodium. When you’re low on sodium, your body can’t retain as much water. In turn, it can cause dehydration and lead to dry stool. This may happen more frequently if you’re overweight.

Signs of low sodium:
• Keto flu symptoms
• Constipation
• Faintness if overheated
• Weak muscles

There’s a simple solution to this problem: add more sodium to your diet.

In one teaspoon of salt, there is approximately 2325mg of sodium. If you have less than 3000mg of sodium daily, you may be at a higher risk of constipation.

You want to have around two grams of sodium per day—that’s about three teaspoons of sea salt daily.

I like to use bouillon as a source of sodium. You can also get about 1000mg of sodium from each bouillon cube. Just make sure you avoid products with MSG.

In summary, make sure you replenish your sodium levels when you’re fasting. Sodium is important for maintaining normal and healthy bowel movements.

Give these tips a try, and let me know how they work for you in the comments below.
