The average person in American consumes way more sugar than they realize—it’s over 300g of sugar every day. A lot of that sugar is hidden in foods like bread, crackers, pasta, and potatoes.

Sugar is almost like steel wool on your arteries. It can create a lot of free-radical damage and oxidation, basically rusting out the inside of the body.

The body stores sugar as glycogen. Glycogen is a combination of stored glucose molecules, a small amount of potassium, and a lot of water.

A person will typically use up the sugar as energy and replace it really fast. It’s like a very small battery.

The average person is never actually able to tap into burning fat. Instead, they’re running on sugar, which can lead to hunger, cravings, fatigue, stress, inflammation, and more.

Fat is a much cleaner fuel for the body. Your brain even loves to run on the byproduct of fat, which is ketones.

If you’re new to the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting, the most important thing to do is drop your carbohydrates. Giving up carbs will help you actually burn fat. You would want to consume a diet that is made up of moderate amounts of protein, higher amounts of fat, and a lot of vegetables.

If you’re a beginner, you may want to start by doing dirty keto. You would do low-carb without focusing so much on the quality of the ingredients. But, as you go, it may be best to develop more of a healthy keto lifestyle where you focus on the quality of the ingredients as well. This way, you can get more nutrients and fewer chemicals. Another thing to keep in mind, especially when you’re a beginner, is that you need to take electrolytes, sea salt, and B vitamins.
