In this video, we’re going to talk about the causes of high liver enzymes. If liver enzymes AST or ALT are high, this signifies a problem with the liver. If ALP is high, you may have a stone blocking the bile duct.

A fatty liver is commonly caused by alcohol. When alcohol is not involved, the number 1 cause of high liver enzymes is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, usually caused by insulin resistance.

Medications like statin drugs, steroids, antibiotics, and Tylenol can cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Infections and viruses like hepatitis can cause a fatty liver and elevated liver enzymes as well.

Cirrhosis is scar tissue of the liver, typically resulting from insulin resistance. Cirrhosis can also cause high liver enzymes.

If you have high liver enzymes, keto and intermittent fasting can help.
