Today, let’s talk about the connection between chronic pain and MSG (monosodium glutamate). Glutamate is a naturally occurring amino acid in soy sauce and parmesan cheese. It’s also a major neurotransmitter in the brain.
The problem is that it is also an excitotoxin. This means it has the potential to damage the nerve cells and cause chronic pain.
It could cause other health issues, including:
• Headaches
• Migraines
• Chronic fatigue
• Sleep problems
In one study, the group that removed MSG from their diet and drank more water showed similar effects to the group that took acetaminophen (a pain killer drug).
Other forms of MSG:
• Modified food starch
• Hydrolyzed protein
• Protein isolate extract
• Autolyzed yeast extract
MSG is commonly found in:
• Chinese food
• KFC
• Chick-Fil-A
• Doritos
• Pringles
• Bouillon cubes
• Canned soup
• Frozen processed foods
It’s important to read labels and realize that just because it’s not in the form of monosodium glutamate, it doesn’t mean you aren’t being exposed to MSG.
