Is it worth taking synthetic vitamin D instead of natural vitamin D? Calcifediol is a good alternative for those who have kidney problems. If you have healthy kidneys, it's best to use the natural version of vitamin D, cholecalciferol.

In this video, we’re going to talk about calcifediol and cholecalciferol.

Is calcifediol that much better than cholecalciferol? Let’s find out.

Calcifediol is a semi-synthetic version of cholecalciferol. It is a synthetic version of cholecalciferol made in a lab—they alter the chemistry to help with absorption.

Calcifediol does not need to go through the kidneys in its activation by the liver. The absorption of this form of vitamin D is absorbed slightly faster than cholecalciferol.

The reason why someone came up with calcifediol is purely to increase the absorption. There are many barriers that prevent the absorption of vitamin D, including…
• Obesity
• Hepatitis
• Fatty liver
• Kidney disease
• Cirrhosis
• Insulin resistance
• Inflammatory bowel disease
• Leaky gut syndrome
• Hyperthyroidism
• Low magnesium
• Low zinc

I prefer to take pure and natural forms of nutrients—especially vitamin D. When it comes to using cholecalciferol, you can simply take a little bit more and have the same results as you would taking calcifediol.

Tips for increasing cholecalciferol absorption:
• Add 1000-2000IU more
• Take zinc
• Add magnesium
• Take it with a meal or MCT oil

Thanks for watching. I hope this helped explain why I don’t choose calcifediol over cholecalciferol vitamin D supplements. I’ll see you in the next video.
