1:55 Key takeaways

In this video, we’re going to talk about the vitamin D toxicity myth.

Some believe that vitamin D is toxic—so you have to be careful about how much you take. Is this true or false?

This vitamin D toxicity myth is false.

It is very rare for anyone to experience vitamin D toxicity. In fact, it would take a daily dose of 50,000-100,000IU of vitamin D for months or years to develop a toxic level of vitamin D.

What can potentially happen if you have high levels of vitamin D?
1. Hypercalciema
2. Kidney stones

But what about the benefits of larger doses of vitamin D? The benefits are endless—especially when it comes to autoimmunity, inflammation, blood pressure, and immune support.

Studies have shown that 200,000 to 300,000IU of vitamin D can help with rheumatoid arthritis.

The best way to avoid the potentially toxic effects of vitamin D is to consume more water. Around 2.5 liters, or 10 cups, is the ideal amount of water to have daily. This can decrease your risk of kidney stones.

You can also reduce your risk of kidney stones by avoiding calcium supplements.
