Today we're going to talk about how a folate (vitamin B9) deficiency could potentially cause DNA damage, which can then lead to cancer. Does it bother you to get x-rays or a cat scan? If so, you're probably concerned because of the radiation. But did you know that a folate deficiency can create the same damage as ionizing radiation from x-rays?
Folate is a vitamin that is a coenzyme that helps the body make RNA and DNA. RNA is a copy of DNA, and DNA is the blueprints in the cells to make the body.
When a person is deficient in folate, they can have DNA damage and even damage the DNA repair process. This could potentially lead to many health problems, including cancer.
