In this video, let’s talk about the best source of potassium.
Many people think that bananas are the best source of potassium. Although bananas do have some potassium, you would have to consume 12 bananas, on average, to get the amount of potassium that your body needs on a daily basis.
We need about 4700 mg of potassium each day, and bananas only have between 300-400 mg. To put this amount of potassium in perspective, that would be 7-10 cups of salads per day.
Before we jump into better sources of potassium, let’s talk about why it’s so essential to get the recommended daily value of it. Potassium helps with:
• Regulating blood pressure
• Metabolizing protein
• Normalizing blood sugars
• Fighting cravings
• Heart function
• Sleep and relaxation
• Recovery
• Kidney stone prevention
• Neutralizing the effects of sodium in the body
The best food high in potassium are:
• Beet greens
• Swiss chard
• Avocado
• Winter squash
• Spinach
• Sweet potato
