In this video, we’re going to talk about why your triglycerides are high on keto. Usually, triglycerides go down on keto because you’re using them as a fuel source along with ketones. Most of the time, they go down, but sometimes they go up.
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to help determine why your triglycerides may have gone up:
Q. Did you fast for 14 hours before the test?
• If you didn’t, that could influence the test.
Q. Are your carbs really low, and are you snacking?
• You may be consuming too many carbs or hidden carbs.
Q. Did you drink coffee the day of your test?
• Coffee can elevate triglycerides in some people. Drink only water while fasting before your test.
Q. Did you have alcohol 2 days before your test?
• Alcohol can influence your liver and increase your triglycerides.
Q. Did you sleep poorly before the test?
• Poor sleep can spike your blood sugars, which can be converted to triglycerides.
Q. Do you have high levels of stress?
• Stress activates cortisol, which can raise your blood sugars, which can be converted to triglycerides?
Q. Do you have a healthy liver? Do you consume enough vegetables to keep the liver cleaned out properly? Do you have enough bile?
• A bile deficiency (because of a liver problem) could be the reason your triglycerides are high. If you take purified bile salts before taking the test again, your triglycerides may be lower.
