In this video, we’re going to talk about the real cause of melancholy. Melancholy is sadness, depression, or generally feeling blue. It comes from a Greek word that means black bile.

During the medieval period, melancholy was one of the four temperaments—these have to do with different behaviors or characteristics.

If you look at the characteristics of melancholy, you also get three additional symptoms—bloating, dissension, and constipation.

These all have a direct connection with the gallbladder.

Research shows that if you have gallstones, your risk of depression increases by 80%. The removal of your gallbladder can reduce your risk of depression by 20%. And a low-fat diet can increase your risk of depression. Why?

Fat triggers the release of bile. Gallstones come from a lack of bile. Gallstones can also decrease or block the flow of bile, which is why having your gallbladder removed can increase your bile and decrease your risk of depression.

What do all of these indicators point to? A lack of bile. But what’s the connection between bile and your mood?

If you have low bile, you aren’t going to absorb vitamin D. A vitamin D deficiency can create serious depression.

A lack of bile will also cause poor absorption of DHA, which is an omega-3 fats acid. Low DHA significantly increases your risk of depression and suicide.

Taking purified bile salts can help improve your bile and decrease the feeling of melancholy.
