In today’s videos we are going to talk about the sensation of bitter taste in mouth.
We all have experienced it in our lives at least for once. Sometimes we fail to identify the cause of it. So I am here to help you identify the cause of the bitter taste in your mouth.
For those who suffer from this know are familiar with the sensation very well. It feels like you are consuming a bitter gourd or black coffee. Moreover, this kind of taste persists even after brushing your teeth.
There could be many potential causes of this situation. Let us discuss them.
Poor Oral hygiene - The most common cause of it is bad practice of oral cleaning. Microorganisms spread to teeth and gums causing bad breath and weird taste in mouth.
But in case your oral health is just fine and you don’t know where it is coming from, there are some other potential causes of it:
1. Oral thrush – the causative organism in this case is candida. For those of you who love sugar, you got your companion because candida loves it too.

2. Pregnancy – Pregnant ladies tend to suffer with a bitter metallic taste in mouth due to the deficiency of zinc. It causes the palate to acquire lot of sensitivity in pregnancy.

3. Menopause – The shift in estrogen leads to many discomforts in the female body. Bitter taste in mouth is also one of them since estrogen affects the liver and results in its malfunction.

4. Gastroesophageal reflux – It occurs when the stomach acid goes up to the esophagus area and comes up in your mouth, causing that wierd bitter taste to persist in the mouth.

5. Liver malfunctioning– Liver acts as the security force against the toxins entering in our body. It detoxifies the poisons and other deadly toxins. When the liver fails to do its job, heavy metals and other poisonous substances increase the toxicity resulting in numerous symptoms and bitter taste is one of them.

6. Diabetes –Absence of glucose in the cells and its accumulation in the blood due to lack of insulin in the body, leads to a medical condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis. It causes larger amount of ketone bodies to accumulate in the body resulting in decrease of blood pH. This makes your taste sensation bitter.

7. Medications – Certain supplements like zinc, copper, etc. and medications like antibiotics, antidepressants or certain heart medications, etc. when used for a prolonged period of time may lead to such condition.
When should I get it tested?
It depends on the severity of the causes mentioned above.
 If you are sensing bitter taste, in addition to nausea and constant dizziness.
 Abdominal swelling
 Pain in upper right part of the abdomen
 Appearance of yellowish color in the eyes and skin

How can I get rid of it?
In case of oral thrush, the first thing that you need to do is cut off the intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates. The next thing that you can do is, put a non-dairy liquid probiotic in your mouth and swish it. These microorganisms are gonna take away all the food of poor candida making them starve to death.
All you have to do is make the living conditions poor for candida. You can use apple cider vinegar and sea salt in water to do the same.
In other medical conditions, you need to get them treated first with the help of your doctor. With it being just a symptom of those severe diseases, it will also be treated after the elimination of its root cause.
You can also prevent or get rid of it with some daily habits like:
 Adopting healthy lifestyle
 Healthy food
 Stay hydrated
 Citrus fruits in diet
 Good oral hygiene
 Detoxification drinks
