Iron-Deficiency Anemia | Causes, Pathophysiology, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Iron Deficiency Anemia is a hematological condition involving low levels of hemoglobin (red blood cells) due to deficiency of iron, which is required for production of hemoglobin and red blood cells. Due to iron deficiency, the body is not able to make enough hemoglobin and red blood cells, ultimately leading to anemia. In this lesson, we discuss a variety of causes of iron deficiency, including decreased dietary consumption, increased losses and increased utilization. We also discuss the signs and symptoms of iron deficiency anemia, along with how it is diagnosed and how it is treated.
