Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired hematologic (blood) condition involving irregular (paroxysmal) episodes of pink/red urine coloration that often occurs at night. The pathogenesis of this condition involves a mutation in a blood-making stem cell within the bone marrow. PNH is a very rare condition, often affecting individuals of certain age groups. In this lesson, we discuss the pathogenesis of PNH, along with the epidemiology, signs & symptoms, how PNH is diagnosed and how it is treated.
