balancing of moments
If an object is balanced, the total clockwise moment about a pivot is equal to the total anticlockwise moment about that pivot.

How do moments of forces balance each other?
When an object is balanced on a pivot the turning effect of the forces on one side of the pivot must balance the turning effect of the forces on the other side of the pivot - if they didn't it would not balance.

What is the principle of balanced moments?
The Principle of Moments states that when a body is balanced, the total clockwise moment about a point equals the total anticlockwise moment about the same point. Moment =force F x perpendicular distance from the pivot d.

What is the example of principle of moments?
Suppose, for example, that a light rod is supported by a pivot and that a particle of mass m 1 is suspended from the rod at a distance d 1 to the right of the pivot, and another of mass m 2 is suspended from the rod at a distance d 2 to the left of the pivot.

How are moments used in everyday life?
Moments come into play when forces act on an object that has a fixed point. For example, turning a door handle, sitting on a seesaw or closing a pair of scissors. When forces are applied to these objects they rotate around their fixed point, also known as the pivot or fulcrum

What is the relationship between moments and equilibrium?
An object in equilibrium will not turn or accelerate - there is no overall (resultant) force and the clockwise moments are equal to the anticlockwise moments. For a balanced object, you can calculate: the size of a force, or. the perpendicular distance of a force from the pivot.

How do you solve clockwise and anticlockwise Moments?
The Principle of Moments

If an object is balanced, the total clockwise moment about a point is equal to the total anticlockwise moment about the same point. This is called the Principle of Moments. Total clockwise moment = Total anticlockwise moment.

What is the difference between clockwise and anticlockwise Moments?
Clockwise, involves a turn to the right as it follows the hands of a clock and anti-clockwise involves a turn to the left, against the direction of a clock's hands.
