Cavitation in centrifugal pump
Cavitation occurs when the liquid in a pump turns to a vapor at low pressure. It occurs because there is not enough pressure at the suction end of the pump, or insufficient Net Positive Suction Head available When cavitation takes place, air bubbles are created at low pressure
What is cavitation and its effect in pump?
Simply defined, cavitation is the formation of bubbles or cavities in liquid, developed in areas of relatively low pressure around an impeller. The imploding or collapsing of these bubbles trigger intense shockwaves inside the pump, causing significant damage to the impeller and/or the pump housing

How does centrifugal pump prevent cavitation?
Some tips to prevent cavitation due to vaporization include:
Lower temperature.
Raise liquid level in suction vessel.
Change out pump type.
Reduce motor RPM.
Use impeller inducer.
Increase diameter of the eye of impeller.
What do you mean by cavitation?
Cavitation is a phenomenon in which the reduction of pressure to or below the liquid's vapour pressure leads to the formation of small vapor-filled cavities in the liquid. The process in which a void or bubble in a liquid rapidly collapses, producing a shock wave, is called inertial cavitation.
How do you know if a pump is cavitating?
What are the symptoms of cavitation? The obvious symptoms of cavitation are noise and vibration. When bubbles of vapour implode they can make a series of bubbling, crackling, sounds as if gravel is rattling around the pump housing or pipework.
How do you overcome cavitation?
How to prevent cavitation due to vaporization
Lower the temperature.
Raise the liquid level in the suction vessel.
Change the pump.
Reduce motor RPM if possible.
Increase the diameter of the eye of the impeller.
Use an impeller inducer.
Use two lower capacity pumps in parallel.
What are the symptoms of cavitation?
Cavitations act as a breeding ground for bacteria and their toxins. Research has shown these bacterial waste products are extremely potent and result in digestion problems, chronic fatigue, general feeling of malaise, and other chronic health problems.
