Concept covered:
In this lecture, we started by writing the continuity equation, momentum equation and energy equation in Cartesian, cylindrical and spherical coordinates. Then we considered external flow and discussed about boundary layer. Boundary layer is the region near to the wall where there is effect of viscosity and there will be thermal interactions also. And outside this region is the inviscid region where there is no effect of viscosity. Then we used intuitive arguments and scale analysis and derived the boundary layer equations. For flow over flat plate there will be no axial pressure gradient. We further discussed about velocity boundary layer and deduced order of hydrodynamic boundary layer thickness, shear stress and friction coefficient.
