Tableau Prep is a data preparation and transformation tool that allows users to clean, aggregate, merge and prepare their data for further analysis in Tableau. Earlier these preliminary steps were managed by earlier versions of Tableau. But they reduced the processing speed of Tableau.
So the need for a separate module that could clean, analyze and aggregate data emerged. Then Tableau Prep was designed. Tableau Prep has an easy and clean user interface that looks and feels like the final form of Tableau Desktop’s data source screen.
This video tutorial will teach you how to perform the union of files in Tableau Prep. It also explains how the joining of two files in Tableau Prep is effected. The concept of pivoting( transposing rows and columns is illustrated with an example. The user is taught how to aggregate data, group and replace data fields and how to create and display calculated fields. Other topics like filtering data, displaying output in Tableau and the "hyper" feature are also demonstrated. Finally, the concept of writing script to prepare the data is illustrated using Tableau Prep Builder.
