Tableau | Difference between Tableau Public and Tableau Desktop

This video is meant for users of Tableau and students of Data Science. It illustrates the differences between Tableau Public and Tableau Desktop (Tableau Public Vs Desktop)with the help of examples.
This video was prepared by Ms. Bhargavi Kandukuri, Senior Tableau Developer INNODATATICS and 360DigiTMG. She has a rich experience of 13 plus years in Data Visualization with Tableau, COBOL, CIC2, DB2, and JCL.
Tableau Public as the name suggests implies that the workbooks created are not stored locally. Rather they are saved to Tableau's public cloud that can be viewed and accessed by anyone. This is not ideal for corporate clients as data privacy is of prime importance. It is very popular with students.
Tableau Public has limited Data Source Connectivity options. This again makes it impractical for corporate usage. The workbooks cannot be saved locally to the hard disk. They can only be saved to Tableau Public Gallery. There is no live connection option. Unlike Tableau Desktop we cannot work with live data. Tableau Public creates an extract of the data.
There is no option to export visualizations as images and custom geocoding is not possible. Neither can we integrate Tableau Public with R or Python.
In this respect, Tableau Desktop is far superior to Tableau Public. Work can be stored locally. Users get to work with live data and visualizations created can be stored as PDF files. Custom geocoding is possible and integrating with R and Python is easy.
