"Data collection is the process of gathering and measuring information on variables of interest, in an established systematic fashion that enables one to answer stated research questions, test hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes. The data collection component of research is common to all fields of study including physical and social sciences, humanities, business, etc. While methods vary by discipline, the emphasis on ensuring accurate and honest collection remains the same.
These are some Examples of Data Collection.
Tracking social media, discussion forums, reviews sites, blogs, and other online channels; surveys, questionnaires, and forms, done online, in person, or by phone, email, or regular mail; focus groups and one-on-one interviews; and. direct observation of participants in a research study.
We have some important points in Data collection:-
1. Primary Data Source
2. Secondary Data Source
3. Data Version Control
4. Data Description
5. Data Requirements
6. Data Verification
7. Negative Bias
8. Advantages & Disadvantages
9. Positives Bias
Primary Data Source - A primary source provides direct or firsthand evidence about an event, object, person, or work of art.
Secondary Data Source - Secondary data is data collected by any party other than the researcher, including administrative data from programs, geodata from specialized sources, and census or other population data.
Data Version Control - A good data version control tool will allow you to have unified data sets with a strong repository of all your experiments.
Data Description - the Data Description Document is to record all information about the data files and their contents so that someone can use the data in a future research project and understand the data's content and structure.
Data Requirements - the process used to identify, prioritize, precisely formulate, and validate the data needed to achieve business objectives.
Data Verification - Data verification helps to determine whether data was accurately translated when data is transferred from one source to another, is complete, and supports processes in the new system"
