ASM Failure Groups & Redundancy - DG Mirroring - Management (V$ASM_DISK,V$ASM_DISKGROUP,V$ASM_FILE)
Failure Group:
Subset of disks in a disk group dependent on a common
hardware resource whose failure must be tolerated
Note:
ASM won‘t do a hardware check when creating failure groups
From this, we get 3 possibilities for creating FG‘s:
(1) create real FG‘s according to definition (independend hardware)
(2) define FG‘s of your own
(3) use DEFAULT: each disk as a separate FG
Mirroring:
EXTERNAL REDUNDANCY indicates that ASM does not provide any redundancy for the disk group.
With NORMAL REDUNDANCY (the default), a disk group can tolerate the loss of a single failure group without data loss.
HIGH REDUNDANCY provides a greater degree of protection (three-way mirroring).
