Working With Text

Combining an image with text can be a super fun and effective technique. It can create a playful sense of depth and allows for textures, colors, and imagery to make it's way into the design.

There are two ways to accomplish this while still keeping the text editable. Layer Masks, and Clipping Masks. They are both really similar and the technique is subtle. Look for the horizontal or vertical lines in the layers panel to give you a hint.

Although both techniques are similar I recommend going with the clipping mask since it makes moving the image around after it's masked easier.

After we chose our text, we brought our image into Affinity Photo. From there we used a clipping mask to make sure the image was only shown within the text.

Let me know if you have any questions about the tutorial or if you have any other fun techniques and or effects with text that you love.
