Sales Prospecting Definition:
Sales Prospecting: when a sales representative reaches out to potential customers in hopes of starting a sales conversation. That's when the salespeople at one company reach out to another company, usually with cold email, cold calling, or LinkedIn. It can also be alternative channels like Instagram Direct Message, Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms. It all depends on where your ideal customers like to spend their time.

Day In a Life of Sales Prospecting
when your job is to do sales prospecting, here's how your day is going to typically work. You might be using LinkedIn to find companies and decision-makers you'd like to reach out to. You may have to develop different campaign ideas - for example, real estate, e-commerce, etc.

Once you have all that information, it's time to do the actual work. If you're cold calling, you're building your list, prioritize who you want to call first, and you just go through it
if you're doing cold email, you're just writing emails, setting up A/B test to see what works, and sending it out using email software

The main goal of sales prospecting is to get someone to agree to a meeting with you and get them on a 30-minute meeting where you can ask them questions, identify pain, and qualify whether or not they are a good fit to buy from you. If that person is qualified, then you can move them to the next step in the sales process, and either you can do it, or an account executive will take it from there.
