In order to come up with a Google AdWords strategy, you need to understand how the platform works.

There are 3 parties when it comes to Google. There is the customer or the person making a search into the Google search engine. There is Google who is responsible for processing the search. And last but not least, there are advertisers who are targeting their advertisements to keywords that people are typing in. There are different ways to target your advertisements, but for the most part, you are targeting your ads to specific keywords when you are an advertiser.

Once someone makes a search, Google looks at all the advertisers who are eligible to enter a specific ad auction. Google determines which ads to display and the order to display them based on Ad Rank. Ad Rank takes into account each advertisers Quality Score and bid for a specific keyword. The advertisers with the highest Quality Score and the most competitive bid will achieve the first spot in the advertisements section of the search results.

For certain industries, you may have to bid upwards of $20.00 per click in order to have any chance to show in the search results. However, for the most part, advertisers will need to set bids anywhere from $0.50 - $3.00 depending on the specific keyword and industry.

You can bid lower on keywords if you can achieve a high quality score. You can gain a high Quality Score by creating a great ad experience for potential customers. You want your advertisements, keywords, and landing pages to match up very closely so people are the most likely to convert on your website.
