Course Description

Virus structure, in this course we will learn about Virus Structure. Viruses are microscopic infectious agents with unique structural features that distinguish them from other life forms. This course explores the fundamental components of viruses, including the capsid (protein coat), nucleic acid core (either DNA or RNA), and, in some viruses, a surrounding lipid envelope. We will examine the diversity of viral shapes—such as icosahedral, helical, and complex—and how these structures affect infectivity and replication. You’ll also learn about viral symmetry, the role of capsomeres, and the significance of structural proteins. Special attention will be given to the differences between enveloped and non-enveloped viruses, and how these features influence virus-host interactions. Through detailed diagrams and models, this course aims to provide a clear understanding of viral architecture, helping learners grasp how viruses invade host cells and propagate. Ideal for students in biology, microbiology, and health sciences. Bio science
