According to statistics shared by Ddiy.co, around 71% of the people they asked claimed that artificial intelligence (AI) is more Innovative than humans. Well, as a writing trainer, whenever I heard about something innovative like tools that can make learning easier, I got curious.
Recently, I heard about an online essay writing tool by Editpad (an online notepad integrated with multiple AI tools). They claim that it is designed to assist users in creating essays effortlessly, acting as an AI essay writer that can generate content based on user input. At the very first stance, some questions started swirling in my mind.
- Can it help practice different essay types?
- Can it help students in exam preparation?
With the above questions in mind, I decided to test the tool myself. I wanted to see how it could help people, particularly my students with self-learning.
After testing what I discovered was quite interesting. And that’s exactly what I’ll share with you in this blog post. But before that let me share the basics of the Editpad’s Essay Writing tool with you.

It is a free essay writing tool that uses advanced AI algorithms to generate the output. Let me share my experience when I visited this AI Essay Writer by Editpad – an online notepad.
When I landed on the tool page a thing that I appreciated was its simple interface. All one needs is to input the topic of their essay inside the tool, adjust filters (if needed), and click on the action button “Write My Essay”. The tool will take them to a new page with their essay written (within seconds).

Like the World is evolving the ways of learning are also evolving from time to time. Firstly, people go to libraries for learning, then they start taking free courses on Udemy and similar platforms, and now comes AI.
Now that I have walked you through the basics of the AI Essay Writer. It’s time to talk about our main topic, which is how reliable is the tool for self-learning. To check this, I tried the tool in different ways by keeping the questions I mentioned in the beginning in mind. Below I have shared my opinion about it.
1. Can It Help Practice Different Essay Types?
The tone, structure, and transition of an essay vary with its type. I aimed to check whether the tool follows the flow as per essay type or not so the students can take them as samples and practice writing essays in the same transition.
As I mentioned earlier, the tool offers to write essays in 12 different types. To evaluate its potential, I decided to test two of them i.e., Persuasive and Comparative.
Here's how it went:
For the Persuasive Essay
I provided the tool with a topic: “Why Electric Vehicles are the Future.” After inputting the topic, I chose Persuasive among the types and kept the essay length Short.
Within seconds, the tool generated an essay (I have shared the screenshot below).
Look at the output yourself. Won’t it look like having a clear introduction and logical arguments? In my opinion, it's good enough to understand. Nor too perfect, nor too bad.
The thing that stood out to me after seeing the output is the flow of the essay. It seems that the AI Essay Writer tool modeled the flow and tone as needed for a persuasive essay.
By analyzing this flow and tone, learners can get an idea of how to build their arguments and support them with evidence.
For Comparative Essay
I tested the Comparative Essay with the topic: “Online Learning vs Classroom Learning.” This time I kept the academic level to Middle School to check whether the tool can adjust the tone accordingly or not.
Here’s the output that I got from the tool.
See yourself. Won’t it seem like a balanced comparison? Well, to me it does.
Why? Because it highlighted both the advantages and disadvantages of both the subjects under consideration. Plus, it used transitional phrases like “On the other hand” at the start of the third paragraph.
Here I would like to appreciate one thing. As I chose the Middle School academic level, the AI Essay Writer wrote the essay accordingly. A tone that middle school students can understand, plus the sentence structure is also short, simple, and easy to follow.
And you know what transitional phrases are key when it comes to comparative essays. This can be particularly useful for students practicing the art of comparing ideas.
2. Can It Help in Exam Preparation?
When it comes to exams, essay writing is a challenging part for students. Preparing for it requires a lot of practice. Especially in organizing thoughts, building arguments, and presenting them clearly.
To see if the Editpad AI Essay Writer could assist in exam preparation, I tested it in various scenarios. The goal was to check if the tool could provide a solid foundation for understanding the structure, key points, and vocabulary required in essays.
First Scenario – For Understanding Intent & Structure
First, I gave the tool the topic “The importance of Time Management”, kept the type basic, and chose High School as the academic level.
Here is the output that I got for this topic.
When it comes to structure it’s good enough. As you can see there’s a clear introduction and body paragraphs. The topic emphasized well on the intent and explained why managing time is important by describing different benefits.
Students preparing for exams can generate multiple outputs like these and use them to:
- Understand how to create a logical flow of ideas.
- Identify key points to include in their essays.
- Use the generated essay as a sample to practice rewriting it in their own words.
Second Scenario – For Building Vocabulary
Vocabulary – a most crucial thing in essays that brings appreciation. To check this, I gave the “AI Essay Writer” the topic “How Technology Impacts Education”. This time I set the academic level to Graduate level and chose the Narrative as essay type, to check whether it uses the vocabulary accordingly or not.

As you can see this time “the AI Essay Writer” has produced content with advanced vocabulary/terms which is often appreciated at Graduate level exams.
Students can learn these terms, add them to their vocabulary, and use them in their writing. They can generate multiple essays (as the tool is free) and use them for mock tests.
For example, they can set a timer for 30 minutes, read the essay generated by the tool, and then try writing their own version based on the main ideas.
Plus, repeated exposure to such language can help students build confidence and improve their essay-writing skills.
How Good I Found Editpad Essay Writer?
Well, I’ll not say that the tool is too perfect for generating essays. But in my opinion, it’s a good option to consider for self-learning. Both students and teachers can use it as a training assistant. For example, they can use it for:
- Familiarize themselves with different essay structures.
- Enhance their ability to think critically about a topic.
- Get better at organizing ideas within a set time frame.
Here I would like to mention a thing about the “AI Essay Writer” tool that stood out to me. It was its ability to break down the ideas into manageable chunks.
For example, in the Time Management essay, the tool discussed the benefits clearly in short paragraphs along with examples, which made it easy for me to understand things better.

The Editpad AI Essay Writer seems to be a useful tool for self-learning. While it’s not perfect, it provides students and teachers with a solid foundation to practice essay writing. With features like customizable essays and clear organization, I think it’s a good resource for self-learning.
